Every Shopify store comes with a blog. Almost nobody configures it properly. The default blog is called "News." The URL is /blogs/news. The article template is the theme default. Meta descriptions are auto-generated. Comments are on.
That's four architectural decisions made by omission before the first post is published.
The real problem
Shopify's blog is a native content tool that most merchants treat as an afterthought — a tab nobody clicks. But it's connected to the same templating system as your product pages, the same metafield system as your catalog, and the same tag system as your collections. It can be a proper content layer. It just needs to be configured like one.
This is test content for template verification.
What grounded looks like
Rename the blog before the first post. Set the URL handle. Turn off comments. Write every meta description by hand. Define article metafields before writing content. The blog you're reading right now is the proof of concept — every element is intentional.
This is Part 1 of a multi-part series. Part 2 covers the simple setup anyone can do today. Part 3 covers the full system with custom templates.
